Xabi Alonso breaks silence on Tottenham and Real Madrid manager links amid Daniel Levy talks

Former Liverpool and Bayern Munich star Xabi Alonso has broken his silence on a potential move to Tottenham and Real Madrid as their next manager. The ex-midfielder has impressed in his short spell as the boss of Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, drawing attention from other clubs.

Spurs have been reported to be amongst those, with the need for a new manager to front a new project heading into the start of next season. Chairman Daniel Levy is set to get talks underway with those who are already in jobs to find the right candidate for the role.

For the time being though, it's Ryan Mason that is in interim charge after the dismissal of both Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini over the past few months. "Obviously from a club point of view the situation we're in now is not where we wanted to be or expected to be at the start of the season but ultimately that's football," Mason said on his appointment.

"It happens sometimes and we can't get caught up on things that have happened. We all understand we have to finish this season well and strong and united as a group within this training ground. That is my job ultimately to do that."

While it remains to be seen who will take the helm at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season, Alonso has been linked as a young, up and coming manager that could join. The Leverkusen boss is also touted with a potential move to Real Madrid to replace Carlo Ancelotti, but has broken his silence on such a move.

"I've been in football for many years, rumours are normal but we still have a lot to achieve," the Spaniard told a press conference. "That's why my head is 100% here for the last few months. And my head is also 100% here for next season."

While that may be the case, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for a manager to later move on after committing to such a project. In the mean time, Spurs will continue their search and it remains to be seen which name they will land on to take the club forward.
