An X Factor-style TV show is being launched to search for Scotland’s best performers to create a top new singing group. Scotland Sings will follow vocal coach Yvie Burnett as she attempts to assemble a band.
Mezzo-soprano Yvie, 54, from Aberdeen, has worked with the industry’s top names including Sam Smith, Lewis Capaldi, Katy Perry and Snow Patrol. She’s also worked with music mogul Simon Cowell on The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.
It is understood the show, which has been commissioned by BBC Scotland, will see contestants attempt to impress the judges to win a coveted recording contract.
Scotland Sings will be across two 60-minute episodes on BBC Scotland next year.
BBC Scotland said: “Aberdeenshire’s Yvie Burnett is convinced that anyone can sing and the simple act of doing so can bring unexpected benefits.
“In Scotland Sings, Yvie will put her talents to the ultimate test. She’s returning to her home nation to help turn lives around via the power of music, plus her unique zeal, warmth and prodigious talent.
“Yvie will be looking for friends and family to nominate those they believe have for years been ‘hiding their musical light under a bushel’.
“And, via a process of auditions, coaching and elimination, she’ll create the perfect choir to perform on the biggest stage.”
The show follows in the footsteps of The X Factor .
Scots who became prominent on the show include Leon Jackson, from Whitburn, West Lothian, who won in 2007 as a 19-year-old. Other success stories include One Direction and Little Mix.
The X Factor ran for 15 series on ITV until 2018.
It was announced in July that the show is to return next year on Channel 5.
