Alison Hammond believed she was making a harmless comment about Stevi Ritchie's love life on Friday's This Morning.
ITV hosts Alison and Dermot O'Leary welcomed X Factor stars Stevi and Chico in the studio with Wagner joining the discussion on a video link from Brazil.
Alison asked each of the guests what their time on the X Factor was like and how their appearance on the show impacting their lives.
Questioning Stevi on his X Factor experience, Alison asked: "How did this show change your life?"
"In more ways than one it was like winning the lottery," he replied. "People say, 'X Factor can change lives or it can't' but for me personally it did, it gave me so much."
Stevi began dating fellow contestant Chloe Jasmine after meeting on the show in 2014 and the couple subsequently got engaged.
Interrupting Stevi, Alison commented: "You met the love of you life."
"Yeah I did, at the time," Stevi replied as Dermot held his head in his hand after noticing Alison's blunder.
"Everything happens for a reason," Dermot quipped as Alison burst out laughing.
"It was a good show I really enjoyed it. Thanks for that Alison," Stevi hit back.
The X Factor star and This Morning presenters all saw the funny side of Alison's mistake.
Stevi and Chloe announced their engagement in July, 2015 and appeared together on Celebrity Big Brother in the same year.
A year later, Stevi confirmed he had split from his fiancée in an interview while sharing his hopes that he would reconcile with Chloe at some point in the future.
However, the couple appeared to still be dating Chloe in 2019 when the singer turned model shared a picture of the two of them together on her Instagram.
Former X Factor star Stevi looked unrecognisable on This Morning after undergoing a fitness transformation.
The singer told Alison and Dermot that he "feels so much better" after sticking to a new fitness and healthy eating regime for "four months".
*This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
