X Factor's Jedward – where are the Irish duo now? Louis Walsh feud and Eurovision stint

All singing, all dancing Irish twins Jedward shot to national and global fame when they appeared on The X Factor back in 2007.

With their matching hairstyles, outfits and charisma – they were an instant hit with viewers at home.

Twins John and Edward Grimes quickly became a novelty act while starring on the singing competition, but they ended up going on to make waves within the music and entertainment industries.

Their rendition of Ice Ice Baby was one of their most popular live show performances, which ultimately led to the duo finishing in sixth place.

Soon after their stint on ITV's The X Factor, Jedward went on to launch a career under the management of their mentor, Louis Walsh.

The Groups mentor ended up managing the brothers for four years, but then all hell broke loose when they ditched him.

Jedward enlisted their mother Susanna Condron to take over as their manager in 2013.

Three years later the boys launched a scathing attack on their former manager Louis Walsh after he described the act as "the most embarrassing thing to happen to him".

John and Edward then released a statement. Edward said: "I think we are the most financially beneficial act of his career in the last 10 years."

While John added: "I don't think he took us under his wing. I think we were already flying and he was like, 'Oh I think I want a part of that.

"I think he got old. It's like someone saying behind your back and you are like, 'wait, I didn't know there was a problem.'"

Representing Ireland at Eurovision

While forging a name for themselves as a duo, the Irish lads went on to represent Ireland at The Eurovision Song Contest, but failed to win on two occasions.

In 2011 they performed their hit single Lipstick at the Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf – but were unable to win the contest for Ireland.

They had another crack at the sining competition in 2012 when they sung Waterline at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku.

Reality TV stints

As well as trying out for Eurovision, fans of reality TV will also know that the twins appeared on Celebrity Big Brother – twice.

In 2011 the duo appeared on Celebrity Big Brother alongside the likes of Kerry Katona who was the runner-up that year and Paddy Doherty who won the show.

Jedward ended up pacing third and were a total hit with viewers of the reality show.

And in 2017 they went back into the house when Coleen Nolan won the competition having received 32.65% of the final vote.

Jedward came second after receiving 29.91% of the final vote, and Kim Woodburn finished in third place with 14.52% of the final vote.

In 2019, Jedward along with Celebrity Big Brother houseguest Roxanne Pallett appeared in the fourth season of Celebrity Coach Trip.

And keeping Big Brother and their BB pals close to them, they even went into into self-isolation with fellow housemate Tara Reid, at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Devastating loss

The Dublin natives, who are 30 years of age today, were only 27 when they lost their beloved mum Susanna to cancer.

Their mum, who also managed the singing duo, battled the illness for five years.

Since her passing, the twins have passionately advocated for cancer awareness following Susanna's death in 2019.

At the time of her passing, the boys released a statement and shared a sweet picture of them with their beloved mum and their brother Kevin.

"We Love You Mammy. Susanna to the world," they wrote.

"Mammy was a Loving mom and always there in our life and gave us the space to find ourselves in the world and will always be a part of our life and our future in everything that we do.

"You can now be at peace with your mom and dad Susan and Kevin our granny and grandad. We will always remember your heart warming smile and the sound of joy from your laughter."

The devastated brothers went on: "You were not only our mom but the core to the whole family. People who knew you personally as a friend respected your loyalty and presence. We can still hear you talking in our thoughts saying good night John, good night Edward, good night Kevin.

"We will always admire you for your honesty and love. Every song we created and all the projects were from your vision and heart.

"Mammy you will always be our best friend and your genuine goodness will be missed. You had an endless joy for life. Everyone knew you had a luminous quality of thoughtfulness and selflessness. You never wanted anyone to know the suffering you were going through and for them to only see the smile on your face."

What are Jedward up to today?

In January 2014, the third series of their hit kids TV show on CBBC – Jedward's Big Adventure – was broadcast.

Between 2014 and 2018, the Irish twins released several new self-penned singles and directed the accompanying music videos.

Their last album Voice Of A Rebel was released in 2019 and featured a 22-song track-list.

Last year on May 22, 2021, Edward was rushed to the hospital to get immediate life threatening surgery to remove his appendix – luckily he was okay and made a swift recovery.

And last summer when ITV said there were “no current plans” for Simon Cowell 's X Factor to return, Jedward declared: "mission complete".

Their comment came a short while after Jedward claimed every contestant on the X Factor "was a slave to the show and got paid zero while they made millions".
