Cincinnati Bengals LB Logan Wilson is coming off making a huge impact on the field in 2021 with 100 total tackles and four interceptions during the regular season and added 39 tackles and an interception in the divisional playoffs against the Titans.
He was also still making an impact off the field for a former teammate of his that will soon hear his name called in the NFL Draft.
Wyoming LB Chad Muma (6’2″, 241 pounds) is one of the top linebacker prospects in the country after a successful four-year career in Laramie, including 142 total tackles (eight for a loss), 1.5 sacks and three interceptions for the Cowboys in 2021.
He credits a lot of his success to his coaching staff, including head coach Craig Bohl and linebackers coach Aaron Bohl, who started as a Graduate Assistant while Muma was there and worked his way up.
But he also showed plenty of love and said he keeps in close contact with his former running mate, Wilson, whom he played with from 2018 to 2019 before Wilson became a third-round pick of the Bengals in 2020.
“If I ever have any questions, I’ll text him and ask him and he’ll always respond,” Muma said at the Scouting Combine Friday. “And it’s always great being able to watch him on Sundays and the year that he had was awesome as well.”
Muma had a very close relationship with Wilson, adding there was a teacher-student element to it as well.
“As a younger athlete there, it was a lot of learning for me and a lot of teaching for him and he was always great about if I ever had any questions, he could always tell me what to do and I think he really helped me develop my game in all aspects, whether that’s in the film room or on the field or a certain technique, I took a lot from him and was able to learn from him and then take some of the things that worked for me and put it into my own game.”
After Wilson left Wyoming, Muma took on more of a role in leading the Wyoming defense and had 71 tackles (eight for a loss) and three sacks in their COVID-shortened, six-game 2020 season. Then came the big breakout in 2021 with 142 tackles, which was second in the country behind only Jack Campbell of Iowa, who is returning to school in 2022.
Muma went on to a have a strong week in Mobile, Alabama at the Senior Bowl, leading the way in tackles there as well, posting nine tackles in leading the National Team, coached by the New York Jets, to a 20-10 win over the American Team, led by the Detroit Lions coaching staff.
Muma is currently projected as a potential late Day 2, early Day 3 pick.
