Wynne Evans has reportedly split from his girlfriend, Liz Brookes, after being axed from the Strictly Come Dancing live tour.
The Welsh opera singer, 53, began dating events manager Brookes, 50, early last year after the end of his 16-year marriage.
Brookes was reportedly “humiliated” over his close bond with professional dancer Katya Jones on the BBC One competition, which saw him having to apologise for putting his hand around her waist.
The Go Compare singer was dropped from the live tour on Tuesday after he was filmed making an “inappropriate” remark to dancer Janette Manrara during the tour launch earlier this month.
A source told The Sun: "Although she loyally stood by him in public, Liz was humiliated by what happened when he was on Strictly.
"She always knew he was a bit old school, and actually liked the fact he seemed rough round the edges. She just assumed it was all part of his charm.”
During Evans’ time on Strictly, he had to apologise for a “joke” after Jones was seen moving his hand away from her waist.
In another moment, Jones appeared to not want to high-five her celebrity partner, which they later called “a running joke”.
The insider said: “It was very difficult for Liz, but she continued to back him throughout the rest of the contest, often being seen in the audience enthusiastically applauding him right up to him being knocked out in Blackpool week in November.”
Brookes supported Evans throughout his time on Strictly and shared a sweet snap of them together in which she gushed that she was “proud” of him.
The source said it’s unclear exactly when Evans and Brookes split, but when his crude remark at the tour launch was revealed she was “relieved they were no longer together”.
Evans split from his wife, professional violinist Tanwen Evans, in 2016. They share two children - a daughter, Ismay, and a son, Taliesin.
The Standard has contacted Evans’ representative for comment.
Evans sparked outrage when he was heard making a lewd remark to Manrara during a Strictly photocall in Birmingham on January 16.
He apologised on Sunday, saying: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise.”
Evans issued another apology for “causing pain” on Tuesday while confirming his Strictly exit.
He said: "I've agreed with the BBC that I'll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
"I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection.
"Apologies to those I won't get to see at the remaining performances and I'm grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me."
Sources said Evans had been told to take time off for “self reflection” after multiple “warnings” about his behaviour.
The BBC announced on Monday that he is taking time off from presenting his BBC Radio Wales show.
Evans typically hosts a weekday morning music and chat radio on the station, but broadcaster Robin Morgan has been filling in for him this week.
His new BBC travel show, All At Sea, with actress Joanna Page aired earlier this week despite the controversy, with enraged viewers questioning why it wasn’t postponed.
Amid the scandal, Evans reportedly snubbed his own birthday meal with his Strictly co-stars on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, his brother, Mark, has voiced his support, saying he would be standing firmly by him during this "challenging time."
He wrote on X: "As a brother, I want to express my unwavering support for him during this challenging time.
"Wynne has a heart of gold and the courage of a lion, paired with a talent that outshines most. His charisma and humour have brought joy to countless people. @BBCRadioWales @BBCTV."
