Wynne Evans shares his 'agony' amid battle to clear his name with BBC over Strictly scandal

Wynne Evans has given fans an insight into his “agony” amid his battle to clear his name following the Strictly Come Dancing scandal.

The opera singer, 53, was axed from the Strictly live tour earlier this year afterbeing accused of making an inappropriate sexual remark to professional dancer Janette Manrara.

Evans, who is best known as the singer in the GoCompare insurance adverts, was then mired in a backstage prank with a sex toy with Strictly co-star Jamie Borthwick.

Amid his apparent bid to restore his reputation with the BBC, the TV personality gave fans an insight into his disastrous trip to the barbers on Sunday.

The Welsh singer revealed he had his eyebrows threaded and told his Instagram followers he was stunned by the “agony” the procedure left him in.

Sharing a selfie of his new look, Evans wrote: “Went to the barbers here - gone for a sharp look. He threaded my eye brows.”

He went on: “Why didn’t anyone tell me it’s agony. Nearly as bad as having my back waxed.”

The former radio host added the word “ouch” across his forehead as he winced at the camera in pain in the snap.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Evans handed over a “dossier” of evidence to the BBC following his removal from the Strictly tour.

He has submitted a collection of videos and screenshots to the broadcaster as part of a bid to prove his innocence, according to The Sun.

Sources close to the singer said he believes his reputation has been unfairly “left in tatters” despite issuing an apology.

Evans has maintained that the remark to Manrara — which was captured on video — was never directed at her. He claims other cast members were aware of the context at the time.

One of Evans’ friends told the publication he has been “thrown under the bus” and insisted a deeper analysis of the footage paints a different picture.

“Wynne’s team have had the clip sent off to a cyber forensics team which has come back with a word nobody had previously picked up on before; they believe it changes everything,” the friend told the outlet.

In the footage, Evans can reportedly be heard referring to “old spitroast boy” — a comment said to be directed at EastEnders star Borthwick.

The term reportedly referred to Borthwick having lifted his legs above his head in a way that resembled a spit-roast chicken, and had nothing to do with Manrara.

The scandal prompted Evans to step back from both the Strictly tour and his presenting role at BBC Radio Wales. In a statement at the time, he said he was “taking some time out” to focus on his wellbeing.

Earlier this month, Evans and Borthwick were also reportedly reprimanded after a video emerged of the actor waving around a sex toy on tour that Evans allegedly gifted to him.
