Wycombe Wanderers owner Rob Couhig aims shot at 'Netflix show' club Sunderland

Wycombe Wanderers owner Rob Couhig has aimed a thinly veiled shot at Sunderland, calling them a "Netflix show" ahead of their League One play-off final clash at Wembley. Wycombe managed to reach the Wembley showcase by beating MK Dons 2-1 on aggregate, despite losing the second leg of the tie 1-0.

Sunderland meanwhile scored a stoppage time equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday which sealed their place at Wembley with a 2-1 aggregate win. And Couhig has not held back on how he views Wycombe's play-off rivals.

In an open letter to Wycombe's fans on the club website ahead of Wembley ticket sales, Couhig wrote: "We know that the last step in this journey will not be easy. We will again be the underdogs to those who “know football”. The supporters of the team that is a Netflix show will try to intimidate us with their superior number of fans.

"But they do not know Wycombe. If they did, they would know that at Sunday’s match - despite the limitations placed on our fans’ attendance - the Wanderers still dominated the stands."

The Netflix show 'Sunderland 'Til I Die' now lives in footballing infamy, with it charting the Black Cats attempts to return to the top flight of English football in season one. However, Sunderland suffered a devastating relegation to League One, where they have remained for the last four seasons.

Season Two focused more upon the inner workings of the club, revolving predominately around owner Stuart Donald and executive Charlie Methven. And while the two seasons may live long in the memory of football fans, the Black Cats will be hoping to shed at least part of this image when they take on Wycombe at Wembley on 21 May.
