Former WWE champion Drew McIntyre believes Tyson Fury will be a special guest referee when he wrestles for the world title in Cardiff.
McIntyre and Fury have long teased a match against one another, particularly during the Scot's two stints as champion in the wrestling promotion. And with WWE returning to the UK for a massive stadium show at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff this September, it seems that it may be the perfect time for the pair to work together.
Fury insists that he has retired from boxing, but he is holding on to his WBC heavyweight belt for the next year after defeating mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte in April. And as a result, he will have a lot of free time to take part in events such as WWE.
He is currently on a speaking tour of that UK that will take him to the end of September, but Fury's schedule is notably empty on September 3; the date of the Clash at the Castle event. He could come in for a match, but McIntyre appeared receptive to the idea of him as a guest referee if the Brit were to get a unified title shot against champion Roman Reigns.
“Maybe,” McIntyre responded when Wrestling Inc suggested a guest spot for Fury. “He gets it when it comes to entertainment. You see his character, how outspoken he is, very much like a pro wrestler, sports entertainer. When he was with us, he had such a respect and passion for our industry.”
Fury is reportedly in talks over a WWE return, after making a number of appearances in 2019 while he was nursing an injury before his rematch with Deontay Wilder. He had been badly cut against Otto Wallin in a tune-up fight, and took on WWE star Braun Strowman in Saudi Arabia in a scripted bout while he was recovering.

He could be tempted back for a big UK stadium show, particularly if he is serious about his retirement from boxing. He recently sold out a record-breaking 94,000 tickets at Wembley Stadium, and would be welcomed with a massive reception in Cardiff.
Speaking with Mirror Fighting last year, interim CEO Stephanie McMahon explained that Fury is the perfect fit for WWE. She was a fan of his appearances in 2019, and appeared keen to do business with him again when the time was right.
" Tyson Fury, I feel, is made for WWE," McMahon explained. "He has all of the personality, all of the charisma, he's an incredible athlete with a tremendous look, he's a big man, lots of strength, power, speed and agility. I think he is tailor-made for WWE and we'll see if and when he comes back."
