WWE icon Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson took to social media to pay his respects following the news that Queen Elizabeth II had died on Thursday.
Buckingham Palace announced the tragic death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday evening, revealing she died peacefully at Balmoral Castle. She died aged 96, ending the longest reign by any monarch in British history.
The Queen, who remained a symbol of stability amid a turbulent era in British history, died having served 70 years on the throne - with the news sending shockwaves all over the world.
And Johnson, who admitted in the video he had never experienced the ‘honour’ of meeting the Queen, wanted to share his thoughts and pay tribute.
He commented on his own feelings following the passing of his father, while sending an overwhelming message of support to the Royal Family and the British population.
“I’m just swooping in really quickly to stop in and send my love and condolences, my light, strength and mana to the royal family during this time in the spirit of the passing of the Queen,” Johnson said in the video, which had ‘sending love and stay strong’ along with the Union Jack as its caption. “I’m so sorry, I know the pain like we all know the pain - and what a life. What an incredible life.
“I never had the privilege or honour of meeting the Queen but what a life. Seven decades, the longest running monarchy - I think, I’m terrible at math but I believe it’s seven decades. What an impactful life.
“Sending a lot of love. Stay strong, and now lets live as greatly as we can, and what a life. Stay strong!”
Johnson’s family hails from Samoa, and the term ‘mana’ is the spiritual life force energy or healing power that permeates the universe in Polynesian and Melanesian mythology. This is why the 50-year-old offered it to the Royal Family amid the tragic news.
Johnson was in Los Angeles to deliver the introduction ahead of the LA Rams’ clash with the Buffalo Bills, which opened the 2022 NFL season. Following the news, the NFL held a moment of silence to honour Her Majesty’s memory prior to the match.
In response to Thursday's tragedy, the NFL UK Twitter account released a statement which read: “Everyone at NFL UK is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with The Royal Family. We join all those mourning the loss of Her Majesty.”
Buckingham Palace announced the Queen died at Balmoral Castle, her summer residence in Scotland. Members of the Royal Family had rushed north in order to be by her side following news of her deteriorating health.
Queen Elizabeth was the last leader of an age when monarchs wielded genuine political power, and she was the only monarch most of the population have ever known. Prince Charles has automatically become king aged 73, and will be officially known as King Charles III.
