WWE Column: Steve Austin in WrestleMania 39 hint while Randy Orton celebrates special milestone

As we all know there is never a dull week in the world of pro wrestling and WWE is no different.

In the past seven days, a legend in Steve Austin has commented on his availability for next year’s WrestleMania in Los Angeles, while another wrestling icon in Randy Orton is celebrating two decades with the company.

On the other hand, a star for the future, who goes by the name of Austin Theory, has just captured his very first championship crown. And after another action-packed week of WWE action, Mirror Sport has run you through the biggest talking points...

Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 39?

Steve Austin says he is open to a appearance at WrestleMania 39 in 2023 (wmf)

The Rattlesnake wrestled his first match in 19 years at WrestleMania 38 earlier this month and he didn’t miss a beat. An exciting near 15-minute brawl culminated with the Hall of Famer delivering a Stone cold Stunner to Kevin Owens to claim a monumental win.

With WrestleMania 39 set to emanate from Los Angeles in 2023, Austin stated he is open to appearing on the show, but stressed it's all down to the decision of Vince McMahon. During an appearance on the Brewbound podcast Austin said: "So, never say never. But I would imagine within the scope of that show, that's going to be a big show in a big-time city, and it will be a two-night event again.

“So, I am sure I am done wrestling, per se. But as part of WWE, I can't imagine that I would not be there in some capacity. I am not booking myself on the show, because I didn't book myself on 38. That's a Vince thing, and I have a great relationship with him. If I get the call, I will be there."

Randy Orton celebrates 20 years in WWE

Randy Orton has been a stellar performer in WWE for two decades (WWE)

This week, one of WWE’s greatest superstars celebrates two decades with the company. Known as The Viper, The Legend Killer and the Apex Predator, Randy Orton is a truly spectacular all-round performer and has provided fans with truly unforgettable moments over the years.

The company acknowledged the future Hall-of-Famer with a tribute on their website. “Already the record-holder for the most matches in Raw and Premium Live Event history, Randy Orton is set to cross another milestone this Monday: the 20th anniversary of his WWE debut,” they wrote.

“From RKO-ing Mr. McMahon and setting The Undertaker’s casket ablaze, to rivalling John Cena and teaming with Riddle, The Viper has seen and done it all in his remarkable career. In honour of Orton’s upcoming anniversary, join WWE in celebrating the 14-time World Champion all week long on social media, starting today.

“Be on the lookout for special Orton-themed editions of WWE Top 10 and WWE Supercut, throwback clips of his career highlights and wildest moments, rare and unseen photos, and much more." Keep a lookout for any posts related to Orton on the company’s social media platforms and join the celebrations by using the hashtag #OrtonWeek.

Austin Theory captured the United States title

WWE star Austin Theory won the US championship this Monday on Raw (@austintheory1/Twitter)

During Mirror Sport's exclusive chat with Austin Theory last December, it was clear to see the confidence he had in his abilities and the desire to be successful in the WWE. Less than a month after competing at WrestleMania for the first time, Vince McMahon’s prodigy was granted his first championship match, and took the opportunity with aplomb.

In a back-and-forth match Theory took advantage of Finn Balor who was unsuccessful landing his "Coup de Grace" finishing move. Theory snuck behind him and dropped his opponent, before securing a pinfall victory and winning the title.

After his epic win, the future star took to twitter and wrote: "You can hate me now, but I won't stop now. #andnew #uschamp #wwe."

He celebrated by taking a trademark selfie with Mr. McMahon and this triumph capped off a brilliant response to his loss to Pat McAfee at WrestleMania.
