Wuhan subway passenger covers body in huge plastic bag to eat banana amid Covid wave

A passenger riding the subway in Wuhan was seen covering her whole body in a plastic bag to eat a banana.

The woman was seen sat between other passengers as she covered her entire upper body in the bag and proceeded to enjoy her snack in a sneaky way to avoid breaching Covid rules.

Currently, Wuhan remains under strict mandates around mask wearing and eating in public in a bid to clamp down on Covid outbreaks.

The footage was captured by a fellow passenger called Wang, who said he thought the woman's actions seemed a bit extreme.

He said: "There are restrictions because of coronavirus outbreaks, but nevertheless even during an outbreak it seemed a bit extreme for the woman to go to this length to have a snack.

"She managed to keep herself separate from others by simply putting the plastic bag over her head.", reports the MailOnline.

While Wang thought the woman's actions to be slightly unusual, other passengers seemed unfazed by her mid-journey snack hack.

The city that recorded the first ever cases of Covid has been plunged back into lockdown three years after it became the epicentre of the virus.

Wuhan, site of the world's first Covid-19 outbreak in late 2019, reported around 20 to 25 new infections a day this week, prompting local authorities to order more than 800,000 people in one district to stay at home until Sunday.

"I don't know what to do. If we can still survive living like this then I suppose that's what we'll do," said a Wuhan resident surnamed Chang, 38.

"When we see these news stories about Covid, we now feel a bit numb. We feel numb to it all. We feel more and more numb."

Wuhan also suspended the sale of pork in parts of the city, according to images and posts on social media, after one Covid case was found that authorities said was linked to the local pork supply chain.

Chinese cities from Wuhan to Xining in the northwest are doubling down on Covid-19 curbs, sealing up buildings, locking down districts and throwing millions into distress in a scramble to halt widening outbreaks.
