Wrexham reveal extent of damage to Racecourse Ground after torrential rain

Wrexham has announced no structural damage has been discovered in the Macron Stand after torrential rain hit the Racecourse Ground at the weekend.

Guests in the 1864 Suite were enjoying their Father's Day lunch when water began to leak into the executive area after adverse weather conditions hit North Wales. Originally, the Red Dragons said the reception area of the Macron Stand has been hit with structural damage.

However, in a fresh statement on Thursday, the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney owned club announced their fears had not been confirmed by an investigation. A post on their website read: "We are pleased to confirm that, following investigation into the large leak in the Macron Stand on Sunday, there is no structural damage to the stand.

"In the wake of the torrential rain that impacted the whole region on the day, the underground drains became overwhelmed which led to our downpipes and gutters to overflow. This led to a significant amount of water leaked into the stand causing a suspended ceiling to collapse and damage to the internal decorations.

"Guests attending the third sitting of our Father’s Day meal in the 1864 Suite were safely escorted out of the building, as a precaution, in case the situation worsened and will be refunded in full. All the repairs will be carried out and completed long before fans are welcomed back into the Racecourse Ground for the new season."

Next season promises to be an exciting one for Phil Parkinson's side as they return to the Football League after a 15 year wait. The Red Dragons were promoted to League Two as champions after pipping Notts County to the title.
