Wrexham AFC Clinches Promotion to League 2 With Comeback Victory

With a 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood on Saturday, Wrexham AFC officially clinched promotion into League 2 of English football. It is the first time in 15 years that the Welsh football club will be promoted from the National League.

Wrexham, widely known as the team owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, clinched first place in the English National League with just one game left to play next weekend. With the win, Wrexham now avoids the promotion playoffs, in which the team lost in the semifinals last season.

While Wrexham had multiple different scenarios to earn promotion, the club succeeded by winning their game after second place Notts County won earlier in the day.

Down 1-0 at one point in the first half, Wrexham scored three unanswered goals, first the equalizer by Elliot Lee then two scores by Paul Mullin to secure the victory. Mullin entered the game as the team’s leading scorer, so it is fitting that he was the one to come through with the game-winning goal.

Next week, Wrexham travels to Torquay United to finish the regular season before taking on a new challenge next year.
