Paul Pogba is said to be more upbeat about being at Manchester United, although the Red Devils are planning for life without him with his contract at the club expiring at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old joined the Red Devils from Juventus in 2016 for roughly £95million, switching back to the club he left for the Bianconeri as an academy player.
The playmaker is yet to secure his future at Old Trafford, with contract discussions held but a decision is set to be made at the end of the season.
It comes at a difficult time for both the player and Manchester United, with Pogba missing action this season due to injury, while the club battles for a Champions League spot.
Amid the uncertainty of the Frenchman’s future, talkSPORT pundit and former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes that Chelsea should sign the midfielder.
Bent said: “When [Paul] Pogba plays alongside [N’Golo] Kante he looks like a completely different player. If they [Chelsea] were to sign him... Wow!"
N’Golo Kante and Pogba have played alongside one another on many occasions for the France national team over the years, building an understanding and chemistry between each other in the midfield.
Both players had key roles in Les Bleus’ World Cup triumph in 2018, where they beat Croatia to lift the Jules Rimet Trophy once again.
The blend of Pogba’s progressive flair and Kante ’s workman-like box-to-box skills made them a pair that were a struggle to contain.
If the option to sign the midfielder were to arise in the summer, that partnership may be the key to Chelsea progressing in the future.
There’s also the fact that Pogba could play in the deeper midfield role or even in the higher position where the two number tens play, offering creativity in the final third.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, the Frenchman is feeling more upbeat at Old Trafford than before.
The playmaker held talks with interim manager Ralf Rangnick and has had a good start to life under the new coach.
But, for a new deal to be signed, Manchester United would have to be playing Champions League football next season otherwise a move elsewhere looks likely.
The situation means that a decision is set to be reached at the end of the season and given the fact he turns 29-years-old next month, the choice of his next destination could be a big one.
Whether Chelsea are urged on by Darren Bent’s comments will be seen, but there are set to be plenty of options in the free agent market in the summer too.
