Robbie Savage says Wout Weghorst had to do better” when he hit his shot at goalkeeper Andre ter Stegen in the first half of Manchester United’s Europa League first leg clash with Barcelona.
United ended up drawing 2-2 at the Nou Camp thanks to Marcus Rashford’s 22nd goal of the season and an own goal from Jules Kounde made by Rashford’s cross. United couldn’t find the win, making Weghorst’s miss even more pivotal. The January signing was presented with a glorious chance to score when threaded through by Bruno Fernandes on 28 minutes. But after allowing the ball to come across his body into the box, his effort smacked against the onrushing Ter Stegen.
It was United’s best chance of the first half and Weghorst was visibly frustrated with his inability to find the net. And Savage was critical of the loanee while on co-commentary for BT Sport, saying those opportunities are ones you have to take at the top level.

He said: “They’re the moments in a Manchester United shirt you have to capitalise on - a big chance in a big game. The lads were talking about it before, what an opportunity it was.
“The assistant’s flag on the far side stayed down, he [Weghorst] let it run across his body, what a chance, what a moment. Got to score that in a Manchester United shirt.
“Beautiful pass, he hasn’t picked a corner. He's got to do better than that Weghorst. I've got to say, it’s good goalkeeping, he's spread himself, but (Weghorst) has got to do better.”
