What’s new: China’s foreign ministry confirmed Thursday that a Chinese citizen was shot while evacuating Ukraine on March 1, but added that the injured person is “out of danger for the time being.”
The Chinese embassy in Ukraine immediately contacted the person to provide assistance, said Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for Chinese foreign ministry during a press conference. No further details of the incident were provided, though Wang said the embassy will continue to monitor the situation.
What's more: It is unclear at present who was shooting and why.
A witness surnamed Cai who traveled with the injured leaving the country, told Beijing News that shots were fired at them when they were driving on a highway en route from Kyiv to Lviv. “The passenger who sat on the backseat of my car got hit at the waist,” Cai said, adding that he was not aware of why they were shot at.
Cai said that after the gunfire, local militia helped transfer them to an air-raid shelter, while the victim was sent to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
