Would you let your kids drink PRIME?

Parents said they wouldn't let their children drink PRIME, as the energy drink faces scrutiny in the US.

Mums and dads said they 'don't get' other parents purchasing the popular drink which is now being scrutinised by health experts and lawmakers in the states over its potentially dangerous levels of caffeine. US senator Charles Schumer described it as a 'cauldron of caffeine'.

The drink was launched by YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul last year. They also sell a separate sports drink, known as Prime Hydration, which contains no caffeine at all. Representatives for Prime did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

It has since proven massively popular among the younger generations, with some people paying up to £100 for a can at times.

Yet many have been sceptical of the trending drink, which despite being vegan and sugar-free has 200 milligrams of caffeine per 12 ounces of the drink. That is equivalent to six cans of Coca Cola, or nearly two cans of Red Bull.

On Facebook, some parents said they wouldn't be buying it for their children, and would not be letting their children have PRIME. Reacting to our story on US scrutiny of the drink, Cheryl Steward-Brady said: "I don’t get people buying it for kids. I saw a five year old boy with the green can of PRIME on South John Street last week.

"My own son is nearly 11 and I’ve told him “no” but equally he grudged £12 a bottle when it was scarce."

Jamie Lee Barry said: "And my boys have just been given a can of this. Let's just say they won't be drinking it."

Jennifer Kinder said: "Yeah 'cause children are meant to drink energy drinks... My son is 12 and he is not allowed them."
