Portsmouth midfielder Joe Morrell has hit out at Liverpool loanee Jarrell Quansah after he was sent off for Bristol Rovers in their defeat in League One.
The on-loan Reds defender was given his marching orders in the closing stages of their 2-0 loss at home to Pompey as Joey Barton's side slipped to a second straight disappointment in League One. Quansah was in the midst of the drama late on at the Memorial Ground after he firmly brought down Joe Morrell with a lunge from behind.
His challenge sparked a melee between both sides with the two players involved in the initial incident at the thick of it. The 20-year-old appeared to lean in with his head, leaving the Welsh international in a heap on the floor.

The Gas manager, Barton, was far from convinced by the referee's decision and took aim at a number of calls which went against his side.
"We don't get it and then to compound that, for what I think is a yellow card tackle for a bit of frustration from a young player, he gives a straight red card," he argued as quoted by Bristol Live.
"So, we feel cheated, we feel aggrieved, because big decisions have gone against us but we have to dust ourselves down and the officials will sail off into the world of unaccountability as they do and they’ll be backed up by the assessor."
In the player ratings from James Piercy, the Liverpool youngster was enjoying a "fine afternoon" until the 'brutal' tackle on the former Bristol City midfielder which the Bristol Rovers fans wouldn't disagree with.
Morrell, who has made over 60 appearances for the Fratton Park side since signing in 2021, wasn't so complimentary about the tackle from Quansah. Following the tackle, melee and alleged headbutt, the 26-year-old believes it was worth "two red cards".
He told BBC Radio Solent: "I’ve got up. Maybe he’s started a bit and he’s headbutted me. I think it’s probably [worth] two red cards.
"I haven’t made a tackle like that in my career and I certainly wouldn’t do that."
