'Worth every penny' - What Wesley Fofana did versus Arsenal that warrants £85m Chelsea transfer

Wesley Fofana has excited Chelsea fans in Leicester City's clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, and with the Frenchman under the spotlight in north London, he looks to have warranted an eye-watering asking price tag.

On the front foot, the Foxes defender dispossessed Granit Xhaka before exchanging a one-two with Jamie Vardy. Fofana's proactive pressing ignited a counter-attack for Brendan Rodgers' side as he marauded into the Gunners' box, cutting outside then out.

His effort was then initially parried by Aaron Ramsdale before the Arsenal goalkeeper pounced to reclaim possession. Fofana's exciting run lifted Leicester supporters from their seats, with Chelsea fans increasingly excited to welcome him to Stamford Bridge.

On Fofana's piece of skill, @MarioBlues_ tweeted: "Worth every penny, Mr. Boehly Pay & Don't speak."

@Highbrow_Idler said: "Fofana's surprise attacking runs in the opposition box reasons all of his worth for that £80m. Get him in #CFC."

@Eyedontmind_: "All jokes aside, this is what I was talking about earlier with Koulibaly and Fofana being right and left for us. Proper front-footed defenders and so comfy with the ball at their feet. Changes the way we play so much imo. You add James and Cucurella to that, and it's quality."

football.london understand the west Londoners will table a fresh bid for Fofana at some point this week, with the clubs locked in talks this week. It's said that the Foxes could be willing to sell their prized asset for £85million, though Todd Boehly's next offer isn't expected to match their asking price.

While the summer window is coming to a close, the Blues have growing confidence that Leicester will cash in. With Chelsea higher-ups evidently eager to wrap up a deal, it's understood that talks with Fofana's representatives are in progress.

"There were two [bids], but again, nowhere near what the club would even think about," Rodgers added, speaking in Thursday's press conference. "To reiterate it, we're not looking to sell Wesley. He's not a player we're looking to move on.

"Naturally, if there is an interest from other clubs, then that is looked at by the club. But he's a top, top young defender. There's not too many about at his age. He's someone we'd love to keep here, but we'll have to wait and see what develops."
