A fire produced a giant plume of smoke which was visible for miles around in the St Helens area.
People shared pictures and took to social media to ask about the scenes yesterday (Friday) evening, as the flames lit up the sky and caused clouds of smoke to drift over residential areas. Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (MFRS) confirmed the fire was caused by a "large quantity of rubbish."
Firefighters spent more than an hour at the scene in Station Road, St Helens, putting out the fire. No injuries were reported.

A spokesperson for MFRS said last night (Friday): "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were in attendance at a fire this evening originating from a large quantity of rubbish, approximately 10m x 10m on Station Road, St Helens.
"Crews were alerted at 8.55pm and two fire engines were on scene shortly after.
"Firefighters used one compressed air foam system (CAFS) branch to extinguish the fire.
"Crews left the scene at 10.10pm."
