Worried Jake Quickenden tells fans his baby son Leo needs an operation

Jake Quickenden has revealed his four-month-old son Leo is set to go under the knife but faces an agonising six week wait.

The X Factor star explained he and girlfriend Sophie Church noticed the little one had a hernia while changing him a few weeks ago.

Ahead of their boy’s appointment, Jake admitted he was "worried" but was hopeful that it had “sorted itself out”.

Speaking on his Instagram Story on Wednesday, the 32-year-old began: "A few people are asking questions about Leo's hernia, we just noticed it in his groin area, it was a little lump pushing out.

"It seems to have got better by itself but he's been waiting a couple of weeks for this hospital appointment.

"So we're going to go and do it anyway, to get it checked out. But hopefully it's sorted itself out. We got told it was very common and he's not in any pain whatsoever with it,” he added.

"But I noticed it when I was changing him and everything you worry about don't you?"

Following the hospital appointment, Jake updated his 914,000 followers on Leo’s health and revealed that he has to undergo a small procedure.

Appearing on camera with Leo, Jake said: "So it turns out he does need a little operation, he's not in pain but where it is in his groin it can strangulate and get into his testicles pretty much.

"It's pretty worrying but we have to wait about six weeks for the hospital to get in touch.

"But it's better to get it sorted if it can cause any future troubles and he seems pretty happy, he's not in pain as I said,” he continued.

"Better to get it sorted, it's just worrying. I've had a lot of lovely messages, so thank you for reassuring me."

Last month, Jake said he ignored nasty trolls who targeted Leo with awful comments about his appearance.

The singer and partner Sophie Church welcomed baby Leo to the world in February and the pair proudly introduced their social media followers to their new arrival.

However, some cruel users decided to send the pair abuse about how their son looked.

One bully suggested the baby needed "Botox" and is "ugly as f***". And another horrifically told Sophie to drown her son.

In light of the nasty commentary, Jake has revealed he plans to be the bigger person if such horrendous remarks appear again.

Speaking to The Sun, the former X Factor star opened up about his pride at becoming a dad.

But talking about some trolling incidents he said: "Obviously the emotions I felt when he was trolled was anger and like surprise.

"I understand if someone doesn’t like me, I can be a bit annoying so I get that. But to troll a baby to try and get a reaction out of me, is a little bit low."

He continued to say that although it's hard, he now has to ignore it and just focus on life's positives.

Jake admitted he felt guilty after posting some of the horrendous messages onto his social media pages as it may lead to that person also getting trolled.

"The comments I tried to delete as quickly as I could so no one could see them," Jake said. "It’s one of those things and unfortunately the dark side of social media."
