Worried Celtic fanatic begs UEFA for help as the green corner demand Rangers are reined in – Hotline

We’re ploughing towards the business end of the season and a few VARS are going to get even more twitchy with the double derby Scottish Cup semi-finals on the horizon.

Think things are controversial now? Hold my beer March, April is on the way.

The Old Firm and Edinburgh duo will collide at Hampden but some don’t think our refs can be trusted to make the right calls.

Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, said: “We should bring in VAR for the Scottish Cup semi-finals games.

"The four teams involved can chip in for it, but I won't hold my breath.”

At this rate there will be robot refs around the world by the time we get VAR.

In the meantime it’s conspiracies that rule in these parts after another controversial night at Tannadice.

Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: “I don't think Celtic have had a decision go against them that resulted in them dropping points since Ian Bankier's speech at the Celtic AGM.

“There have been plenty of decisions given against Rangers – to the tune of around 13 points.

“Starfelt should have conceded a penalty, Reo Hatate out of control studs up tackle should have been a red card.

“VAR would have corrected these atrocious decisions. A paranoid person would nearly say there was an orchestrated campaign afoot.”

Tom Gibbons emailed: “If Hatate’s impersonation of a runaway train had not been stopped by Kieran Freeman’s right foot, he probably would’ve ended up at Dens Park 200 yards down the road! What was John Beaton thinking?”

But Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: “As yet another good Celtic goal is chopped off, when are Rangers fans going to stop boring everyone with this hard done to by refs nonsense? It’s just like their 150th birthday celebrations, no one is taking them seriously. The only thing that needs looking into is the Ryan Kent flick kick trick which it seems everyone has had enough of.”

Brian McColligan , via email, said: “As a Celtic fan I can’t wait for VAR to come in , once again a good goal chalked off for Celtic whilst Rangers are awarded their usual dubious penalty. Bring it on.”

Gordon Ashley, Ayr , said: “What a joke to rule out yet another clear Celtic goal on Monday by a referee who has shown several times this season that he understands the rule involved.

“Celtic must contact UEFA to complain about referee intimidation by a certain club's fans and pundits as we would be six points further in front if VAR was in play.”

Mark Smith, Cumbernauld, hit back and said: “I wondered how long it would take for Hotline blowhard Gordon Ashley to complain about Kent and again typify Celtic’s mentality of criticising refs in time for the next Old Firm game - bring in VAR now!”

The fight for silverware is on and Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “The media are talking up a Celtic treble for one reason and one reason only. “They are the only team that can do it.

“But trebles aren't won in March, there's 10 games to go to achieve it. Big Ange has all his team singing from the same song sheet. One game at a time.”

Bud Hay, Dumfries, sees it differently and said: “Aaron Ramsey on about Rangers in three competitions. We will see how many they are in when they come to Paradise.

“Celtic already won one trophy and they are still in the other two. We will beat them in the semi and the Premiership flag is coming home.”

Gers fan Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “You have to laugh at the Celtic supporters trying everything to deflect away from any conversations about European football. While football fans all over Europe tune in to watch the top teams, they are once again watching Dragons Den.”

Roy Little emailed: “Why are Celtic fans going on about the Treble this season when they've already got it?

“Out of three European competitions.”
