Hawthorn midfielder James Worpel is set to return from an ankle injury to offset Will Day's absence in the blockbuster Gather Round clash with Port Adelaide.

Worpel is among a host of stars named to return in round five, along with Carlton forward Harry McKay, Western Bulldogs dasher Jason Johannisen and Fremantle pair Sean Darcy and Hayden Young.

The Hawks have lost star on-baller Day for two months with a foot injury, but Worpel's return after four weeks out is a bonus for Sunday's grudge match against the Power at Adelaide Oval.

Veteran midfielder Travis Boak has been named in an extended Port team after he was managed last week.

Johannisen, the 2016 Norm Smith medallist, has recovered from his latest hamstring injury and will bolster the Bulldogs in their clash with defending premiers Brisbane at Norwood Oval on Saturday.

Luke Cleary is also back for his first game after he was concussed in a collision with North Melbourne's Jackson Archer, who was given a three-match suspension, while Cooper Hynes will debut.

The unbeaten Lions are unchanged.

McKay returns from personal leave as Carlton take on fellow winless side West Coast at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.

Both sides have swung the axe at selection, making four changes apiece, with experienced Eagles Tim Kelly and Tom Cole high-profile omissions.

Star forwards Jake Waterman and Liam Ryan return for West Coast.

North Melbourne also made plenty of changes for their meeting with red-hot Gold Coast at Barossa Park on Saturday, leaving out Bailey Scott, Matt Whitlock and Robert Hansen Jnr.

Finn O'Sullivan, Zane Duursma and Zac Fisher are back for the Kangaroos, while the Suns recalled Nick Holman in place of Connor Budarick (ribs).

Winless Melbourne made just one change for their crunch clash with Essendon at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, dropping Daniel Turner for Xavier Lindsay.

Archie Perkins and Will Setterfield are back for the Bombers, who lost Jye Caldwell (hamstring) and Tom Edwards (knee).

On Sunday, Darcy is set to return for Fremantle after missing the start of the season following ankle and knee surgeries.

He will replace Luke Jackson (hamstring) against Richmond at Barossa Park, while Young will bolster the midfield on returning from his own hamstring injury.

The Tigers have lost No.1 draft pick Sam Lalor (hip) and Harry Armstrong (hamstring), and opted against bringing back Noah Balta after he served his club-imposed suspension.

Balta faces sentencing on April 22 for assault over an incident in December last year.

Key forward Jonty Faull, the No.14 pick at last year's draft, will debut for Richmond.

St Kilda have named captain Jack Steele (knee) and Liam Henry (knee) to return from injuries against GWS at Norwood Oval on Sunday.

The Giants have lost Brent Daniels (abdominal strain), but vice-captain Stephen Coniglio has been named to return from a glute irritation.
