World's oldest lemur celebrates 36th birthday at Scots zoo with an 'afternoon tea party'

A popular Scots Zoo has shared the adorable moment their resident ring-tailed Lemur, who is thought to be the oldest in the world, enjoyed his 36th birthday.

Little primate Stumpy was treated to an afternoon tea party by staff at The Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder and was pictured happily sharing it with his pals.

Posting pics on their official Facebook page, the team were delighted to share the special moment with Stumpy's fans.

They posted: "Happy Birthday Stumpy!! To celebrate Stumpy's 36th birthday we threw him a lemur friendly afternoon tea party."

Other pics showed an ecstatic-looking Stumpy tucking into another plate of treats.

The still spritely Lemur, who has defied the odds as the ring-tailed species usually only live till around the age of 25 in captivity and their late teens in the wild, is hugely popular with visitors to the park.

Many of whom flocked to wish him a happy birthday.

One wrote: "Happy Birthday Stumpy! The afternoon tea party is so cute."

While another added: "Wish we were invited to this tea party."
