World's largest play structure near Harry Potter movies' school to star in TV show

The owners of this huge attraction hope that it will be a big deal in every way.

Lilidorei

, which is almost 80ft tall and thought to be the largest play structure in the world, has been launched by Jane Percy, the Duchess of Northumberland.

The £17.5million attraction is close to her home, Alnwick Castle, which was used as Hogwarts school in two Harry Potter films.

The duchess, who admits she is “not a great Harry Potter fan”, is also set to star in a TV documentary. The construction and grand opening of Lilidorei will feature in the six-part Channel 4 series.

Lilidorei has 10 towers, about 100 yards of tube slides, 150 tons of play equipment, 20 miles of fairy lights and 1,500 Christmas trees.

There is a giant slide that is about 65ft high.

The duchess, 65, told the Mirror: “I am not even sure I will watch the show, I don’t like the idea of watching myself on telly.”

The series has been produced by Hollywood movie studio MGM and is set to be on screens this year.

The film crew followed the duchess as she worked on the project.

The structure is in the Alnwick Garden, which is beside the castle in Northumberland. The duchess said: “Lilidorei is predicted to get 280,000 visitors a year. But I think that is a conservative estimate.

“I certainly expect around 400,000 visitors a year for the first two years.”

She described the attraction as a “magical village”, home to nine clans who worship Christmas. She added: “I am not a great Harry Potter fan.

“I like Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit rather than Harry Potter.

“The idea is to get children to put down their phones, to use their imagination. One of the best things about Lilidorei is bringing people to the North to see something great. Christmas will be mind-blowing.”

The aristocrat’s husband, the 12th Duke of Northumberland, is one of the richest people in Britain. He has an estimated wealth of £315m.
