World's first vagina emoji revealed to celebrate Sexual Health Week

From the peach to the taco, a variety of emoji can be used to represent the vagina.

But one health and wellbeing company doesn’t think that these substitutes are enough, and instead has submitted the world’s first proposal for a vagina emoji.

To celebrate Sexual Health Week , Elvie has submitted two emoji to the Unicode Consortium, the governing body behind emoji.

The first emoji shows a pink vulva, while the second shows the full female reproductive system.

Tania Boler, CEO and founder of Elvie said: “For centuries, women’s health has been plagued by misconceptions and stigma.

“We should be able to talk openly about our bodies and womanhood.

“Emoji is a universal language used all over the world and it’s about time that language had a symbol for the vulva.”

The period emoji (Plan UK)

The vagina emoji comes shortly after a period emoji got the go-ahead from the Unicode Consortium.

It comes after a campaign led by Plan International UK saw more than 55,000 people calling for a period emoji to be added to the global emoji keyboard.

The charity hopes that the emoji will help to break down the stigma surrounding periods.
