The world’s first ever Fridays takeaway has opened in Dundee.
The much loved restaurant chain launched its inaugural quick service restaurant in the city’s Reform Street today.
Called ‘Fridays and Go’ it is serving up all the best loved treats customers would normally find in the famous red and white liveried outlets.
Covering almost 2600 square feet, the restaurant’s takeaway menu offers all the usual favourites from the best selling Sesame Chicken Strips through to Nachos, burgers and vegan selections
New items on the list now include a Boneless Chicken Dog and the Bucket of Bones.
A light drizzle didn’t dampen today’s opening with magicians, face painters, jugglers and a couple of crazy stilt walkers on show.
They looked on as Dundee Lord Provost Ian Blackford cut the ribbon.
Speaking to Dundee Live, he said: “It’s fantastic that as we move on from the pandemic, new restaurants and businesses are keen to open in the city.
“I am certain Fridays and Go will quickly become a firm favourite for locals and guests alike.
“I think it will be a real asset to the city in the years to come.”
The eatery has created a mixture of 30 full and part-time jobs and has also launched an innovative locker scheme for use by delivery drivers.
When someone makes a remote order it is placed in a locker that only the delivery driver or bike courier has access to - this helps prevents queues from forming and ensures speedy delivery to customers at home.
To coincide with the grand opening, Fridays is officially launching a competition to ‘Win a trip to Dundee, New York!’
More details on the competition will be announced on Fridays’ social channels in due course.
Fridays CEO Robert B. Cook oversaw proceedings today and also took time out to speak to Dundee Live.
He told us: “Dundee was the perfect fit for us to launch this venture - there are two amazing universities here and two huge football clubs so we should see a lot of customers.
“Fridays and Go will deliver all the usual favourites you would expect on the menus of our flagship restaurants but packaged in a way that customers on the go should really love.
“All our staff are local, which is very important, and the unique locker system we have devised for courier delivery collections will really help customers ordering from home to get their food nice and quickly.
“We can’t wait to get going now and think Fridays and Go will prove to be very popular in Dundee.”
Fridays says it plans to open up 30 more quick-serve sites across the UK – including Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness – in the next three years, depending on how successful the Dundee outlet becomes.
Customers in Reform Street can place orders using touch screen points or the traditional counter method.
