The wait goes on for the world's leading surfers at the season-opening event in Hawaii, with competition called off for a third consecutive day.
Six Australian women - spearheaded by defending world champion Stephanie Gilmore - and seven Aussie men led by world No.3 Jack Robinson are on Oahu to take part in the World Surf League (WSL) championship tour's 2023 curtain-raiser the Billabong Pro.
Having lost the first two days to poor conditions, organisers were on Tuesday again forced to pull the plug on competition.
They remain confident surfers will be able to take to the water on Wednesday morning local time.
"We have cleaner conditions but smaller waves today," WSL chief of sport Jessi Miley-Dyer said.
"We have a new swell tomorrow, and we are pretty confident we will have the waves and conditions to start the competition."
Eight-times world champion Gilmore will be up against fellow Aussie Macy Callaghan and reigning Billabong Pro title holder and local favourite Moana Jones Wong in her opening heat.
Tyler Wright, Isabella Nicholls, Molly Picklum and wildcard Sally Fitzgibbons will also be in first-round action.
In the men's first round, Robinson will go up against Brazilian Jadson Andre and Hawaii's Ezekiel Lau in heat 4.
The other Australian men taking part are Ethan Ewing, Liam O'Brien, Jackson Baker, Connor O'Leary, Callum Robson and Ryan Callinan.
