The morning after the night before will offer little comfort to reeling Rangers supporters after being dumped out of the Champions League in humiliating fashion.
Gio van Bronchorst 's side remain rooted to the bottom of Group A without a point as Jurgen Klopp's men put in a dominant second half display with Mo Salah's record breaking hat-trick stealing the headlines at Ibrox. It will feel like a distant memory to some fans after the bruising encounter but Scott Arfield got the side's first goal of the Champions League group stage campaign before Roberto Firmino equalised seven minutes later.
Liverpool took control in the second half as Firmino's second goal of the night was quickly followed by Darwin Nunez’s third and a quick-fire Mo Salah hat-trick. Harvey Elliott caused further embarrassment with a seventh to leave Rangers needed a miracle to even pip Ajax to the third place in their group and a shot at the Europa League.
It's a massive disappointment for Rangers after last season’s brilliant run to the Europa League Final which took them all the way to Seville. Record Sport takes a look at how the media across the globe saw the game.
L'Equipe (France)
"Liverpool imposed themselves as masters after a second period of technical domination over Rangers. Not spared by injuries, Rangers let themselves be overwhelmed, especially at the entrance of a sparkling Mohamed Salah."
VI (Netherlands)
"After a fine first half in which Rangers even took the lead, the Scottish team of 'Gio' collapsed like a house of cards. Liverpool scored a total of seven times and inflicted record damage on Rangers.
"Where the Champions League adventure with zero points from four games is not yet something to write home about for Rangers, they do not have time to think about that in the competition. In the league they are two points behind arch-rival Celtic."
The Guardian (London)
"Rangers were highly decent in the first, Liverpool extremely uncertain of themselves. But how Liverpool responded in the second! Six goals, three of which were scored in six minutes and 12 seconds by Mohamed Salah, the quickest hat-trick in Champions League history. What a performance! What a half-time team-talk Jurgen Klopp must have given! What that might do for Liverpool’s fragile confidence."
Fox Sports (USA)
"Liverpool made a stunning return to form with a late Mohamed Salah hat-trick off the bench in a 7-1 win over Scottish side Rangers. Roberto Firmino struck the first two of Liverpool’s goals and delivered an assist for big-money signing Darwin Nunez to make it 3-1 in a sublime solo performance. Then Salah, off the bench, scored three goals in just six minutes, taking the scoreline to brutal new heights - after Rangers had opened the scoring in the 17th minute and threatened Liverpool for much of the first half."
Bild (Germany)
"Rangers conceded a hefty seven in the home game against Liverpool FC. Undoubtedly, the result is far too high. On the one hand, Rangers were not that bad and played really well for at least one half. On the other hand, the guests did not perform as well as the result might suggest.
"However, the initially disappointing Reds improved after the break and steered the game in the desired direction. With a score of 3-1, it could have been good. But Jürgen Klopp replaced Mo Salah.
"In just over six minutes, the Egyptian produced a flawless hat-trick. This pretty much sets the course for Group A. Napoli is already through anyway. Second in the table, Liverpool have a six-point lead over Ajax – with two games left. Rangers are out, they can only hope for third place and the winter in the Europa League."
iNews (London)
"Never has a scoreline flattered a team so much. It appears, on first viewing, that Liverpool put a vastly inferior Rangers to the sword with a blistering performance at Ibrox, but the numbers only tell half the story.
"Mo Salah has had his struggles this season, pulled out into a wider position than normal by Jurgen Klopp, a move that has not done his goal return much good. But form is only temporary.
"Despite smashing seven past a bewildered Rangers, Liverpool were not at anything like their best until Salah entered the fray, with the Egyptian class above anyone at a stunned Ibrox. The fastest Champions League hat-trick in history could not have been better timed, with Manchester City up next."
Pulse Sport (Nigeria)
"Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah and his teammate Roberto Firmino were the stars of the show as Liverpool completed an emphatic double win over the Rangers. Both forwards combined for six (6) goals as the Reds defeated the Gers 7-1 at the Ibrox on Wednesday night
"For Rangers, it is the end of their European dream after falling to a defeat for the fourth consecutive time in the Champions League this season. They sit rock bottom of Group A, three points adrift of Ajax, who were beaten 4-2 by Napoli earlier on Wednesday."
AS (Colombia)
"The second half was all for the Reds in a landslide. Joe Gomez, who was the starting right back against Trent Alexander-Arnold's loss, escaped from the right and placed the centre low and precise so that the Brazilian sealed his double by winning the centre back and pushing it first with the inside edge of the left foot between the legs of Allan McGregor.
"Eleven minutes later the South American connection appeared to give the visitor peace of mind: Pass to the middle for Firmino, who was a little behind, but he jumped a bit to leave it to Darwin Núñez, who first defined with his right leg. There was nothing the Rangers number one could do.
"That was the last of the Uruguayan, as he left the field of play for the entry of Mohamed Salah. And the Egyptian festival began."
El Heraldo (Brazil)
"Although not in a mathematical way yet, Liverpool got a foot in the round of 16 of the Champions League with the help of the Brazilian Roberto Firmino first and the Egyptian Mohamed Salah, who with talent and success hid the difficulties that the ' reds' in this section of the course and that they were happy at Ibrox Park against a lesser opponent."
CBS Sports (USA)
"At first, it seemed like Roberto Firmino's brace would be the story of the match as Liverpool brushed aside Rangers opening goal, and then Mohamed Salah came off the bench and scored three goals in six minutes and 12 seconds. While it was a fun match for Liverpool, it does need to be pointed out that blowout victories haven't been a sign of good things to come for the Reds this season.
"After defeating Bournemouth 9-0 in August, Liverpool would only win one of their next three games dropping points to Everton and Napoli. Similarly, sandwiched on either side of these Rangers fixtures where Liverpool scored nine goals and conceded one, they lost 3-2 to Arsenal but the team needs Champions League Mohamed Salah to show up in the Premier League."
