During the event, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Trump from a sniper's perch, resulting in Comperatore being fatally shot while protecting his loved ones. Despite the swift response from Secret Service agents, Crooks managed to injure two bystanders before being neutralized.
Italy's Prime Minister Meloni praised Comperatore's sacrifice, describing it as a gesture of love and extreme altruism that deserves to be honored. She extended her deepest condolences to his family and paid tribute to his courage and selflessness.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also reached out to Trump to offer their support and condemn the violence.
