World leaders arrive at Westminster Abbey for Queen's funeral

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte are amongst those in attendance at the funeral

WORLD leaders have started to arrive for the Queen’s funeral in Westminster Abbey.

Around 2000 people are expected to attend, including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Ian Blackford.   

French President Emmanuel Macron has already arrived at the Abbey with his wife Brigitte whilst US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden walked through the doors shortly after 10am. 

President of Ireland Michael D Higgins was greeted by members of the clergy at the church shortly after 10am as he joined other world leaders inside.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, who is now Europe’s longest reigning monarch, and King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, are expected to attend. 

Chinese vice president Wang-Qishan will also be taken to Westminster Abbey with the Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern also at the funeral. 

Leaders from all over the globe have travelled to be at the event as well as former prime ministers Tony Blair and Sir John Major. 

Former Tory leader Lord Hague and Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt have also made their way to the funeral. 

Liz Truss, who will read the Second Lesson during the service, arrived with her husband Hugh O’Leary and was greeted by members of the clergy. 

The Queen appointed 15 prime ministers in her lifetime with Truss formally appointed to the role just two days before the late monarch’s death.

Truss’s predecessors Boris Johnson, Theresa May and David Cameron all arrived at the Abbey on Monday morning.
