World Economic Forum Postpones China Event Due to New Covid-19 Outbreaks

What’s new: The World Economic Forum (WEF) is postponing an event in China this month due to new Covid-19 flare-ups across the country, the forum said Wednesday.

The Annual Meeting of the New Champions will be rescheduled “due to the circumstances around the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic,” the WEF said in an email sent to participants.

The context: The WEF meeting was previously scheduled to be held in the northern coastal city of Tianjin from Nov. 16 to 18. It was supposed to be the WEF’s first hybrid global meeting since the pandemic, with both online attendees and more than 500 participants meeting in person.

A new wave of Covid-19 outbreaks emerged in China in October, spreading to more than half of the country’s provincial-level regions by Wednesday, according to Caixin calculations.
