World Cup winner says Kylian Mbappe could be open to Manchester United move amid PSG exit

World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit has suggested that Kylian Mbappe could be open to a move to Manchester United this summer as he considers his future at Paris Saint-Germain.

The French superstar has been hotly linked with a move to Real Madrid with his contract at the Ligue 1 giants expiring this summer. The 23-year-old has not ruled out signing a new deal with his current employers, though, and a move to Spain is now not looking as likely as it once was.

Mbappe is said to be considering his options with PSG offering him a huge contract full of financial perks such as a gigantic signing on fee and freedoms regarding his image rights, according to ESPN . Now, ex-Arsenal midfielder Petit is unsure what the future holds for his fellow countryman.

He has suggested that there could be another party involved. The 51-year-old mooted that a club from the Premier League or Bundesliga might be throwing their hat into the ring - including Manchester United - which is causing Mbappe to stall and reassess his options.

Speaking to Genting Casino, he said: “He’s (Mbappe) a leader at PSG. There are big talks (over his future) and big speculation - is he going to stay or is he going to leave? He recently said there have been new elements in his reflections, so maybe there is a third club after him?

“There is speculation if it’s a club from England or Germany. It’s not Barcelona. So it’s Real Madrid, PSG and maybe it’s Bayern Munich, but do they have the money? Is it the policy of Bayern Munich?”

He added: “Maybe there is a club in England? People are talking about Manchester City and Liverpool, but why not Manchester United?

“I know Kylian is very linked to his town, the fans, family and friends, so it’s a huge decision for him. If PSG convince him to stay and he will be the centre of the new project, it could be enough to keep Mbappe, but it will be very difficult.”

Mbappe is enjoying another stellar season in France, having netted 28 goals in 38 games in all competitions. However, the accolade he wants most has escaped him yet again this year with PSG’s star-studded side being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid.

Many suggest his next choice will indicate which team he believes will have the most success in next year’s competition, in which case, United’s links with the attacker may be dead in the water. The club are languishing in seventh in the Premier League and are considered outsiders to finish in the top four this season.
