World Cup 'pop-up' pub to sell pints for just 66p in sweet nod to heroes of 1966

Three Lions fans readying for England’s opening World Cup match will be able to buy drinks for just 66p, in a nod to the heroes of 1966.

The Zyn Arms will be opening its doors in Shoreditch, east London, on November 21, ahead of the nation’s first group stage match against international minnows Iran.

The pub was created by nicotine pouch brand Zyn after a study of 2,000 adults revealed what they most desire when watching football down the boozer.

Top of the list was affordable drinks so as a result the firm has a selection of wine and beer will be available for 66p.

A spokesman for the firm said: “The refreshingly affordable 66p drinks menu is a nod to England’s victorious 1966 win.

“The pub will be open for drinkers who are 21 and over only for three days: 21, 22 & 23 November, from 12:30 PM until 10 PM, and will be streaming three matches per day.

“The ZYN Arms is a no-smoking venue, however, those who smoke or vape, are welcome to be the first to try the latest nicotine pouch technology, free of charge.”

The firm’s study showed nearly a third (31%) look for more affordable drinks, while 31 per cent want to be with friends and family.

Alfie is one of the "smarter and responsive alpacas" at the petting zoo where he lives - so keepers decided to put him to the test.

The staff at Fairytale Farm in Southcombe, Oxfordshire, asked the 10-year-old animal for his predictions on who will win Group B.

England, Wales, Iran and the USA are all competing to reach the latter stages of the competition.

Alfie made his choices - in company of his two alpaca friends Horace and Hagrid - by choosing between two separate feeding stations, covered in opposing flags.

Nick Laister, who looks after Alfie, said: "Alfie is one of our smarter and responsive alpacas on the farm who has an abundance of common sense, so if I was pushed to pick an animal to make the right decision, it'd be him.”
