The World Cup came to Dumfries at the weekend.
More than 200 kids through various age groups from five to 17 at Heston Rovers descended on the Maryfield pitches on Saturday for a day of fun and football.
Fionnualla Edgar and Lorna Read managed the Switzerland team which won in the morning with the younger children as they claimed victory over Chile. In the afternoon Dougie Gray led the Japan team to victory on penalties against Algeria.
Club secretary Margaret Douglas said: “It was a great day and we were very lucky with the weather and everybody had a great time.
“The kids always seem to enjoy this event which is great.
“We’d like to thank everyone who helped out on the day as well be it looking after pitches, making teas and coffees, coaching and everything on the day.
“Without volunteers, days such as the World Cup wouldn’t be as successful as they are.
“We’re always looking for more volunteers to help out and if anyone is interested they should contact the club on hestonrovers@gmail.com in the first instance.”
