World Cup 2022: What time is Australia vs Argentina and how to watch the Socceroos

It's been a long 16 years since Australia has made it this far at the FIFA World Cup, and the path to the final eight is blocked by the formidable Argentina.

Having already defied expectations by defeating both Tunisia and Denmark, hopes are high that the Socceroos can keep their giant-killing ways going in Qatar.

Here's everything you need to know ahead of Australia's historic clash in Doha.

What time is the game?

Thankfully this match falls at a much more Australian-friendly time for most of the country than the stupid o'clock match with Denmark.

Australia takes on Argentina on Sunday, December 4 at 6am AEDT (Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart), 5am AEST (Brisbane), 5:30am in Adelaide, 3am in Perth, and 4:30am in Darwin.

How can I watch the game?

SBS and SBS On Demand is the only place you can watch the match in Australia.

If you don't have access to a TV for whatever reason, ABC Sport will be live blogging the match via abc.net.au/sport.

Where are the live sites to watch the match?

We've all seen the footage of Federation Square going absolutely bonkers after the Tunisia and Denmark games, and given this clash falls on a Sunday at a reasonably friendly time, expect it to be even bigger this time around.

Here's where you can go if you want to experience the match with other fans:

Melbourne: Federation Square and AAMI Park. Premier Daniel Andrews announced that AAMI Park would be opened up for free to deal with the expected spillover from Fed Square.

Sydney: Darling Harbour. The Sydney Opera House is unavailable, so the big screen will be at Tumbalong Park instead.

Brisbane: King George Square and Queen Street Mall. Mayor Adrian Schrinner confirmed both sites would show the match.

Perth: Northbridge Piazza. While the rest of the country will be wide awake, West Australians will have to set the alarm early to get to the Piazza.

Adelaide: Telstra Plaza. Located directly south of Adelaide Oval.

Hobart: Wrest Point. Located in Sandy Bay, home to the casino.

Canberra: Civic Square. About 4km north of Parliament House, just near Civic Hill.

Where are the Australians playing?

While the Socceroos haven't moved from Al Janoub Stadium thus far during the World Cup, they'll be heading further north to Ahmad bin Ali Stadium for this clash.

The Aussies are familiar with the ground, having defeated Peru there in their crucial penalty shootout where Andrew Redmayne made a name for himself as the Grey Wiggle.

For what it's worth, Argentina has also had to move for this game, having played at Stadium 974 and Lusail Stadium in the group stages.

Who is still in the World Cup?

There's been plenty of upsets so far with some of the biggest teams already knocked out.

Australia, ranked 38th in the world, is the lowest-ranked team still left.
