World Cup 2022 odds after Saudi Arabia stun Argentina and England hammer Iran

Saudi Arabia beat Argentina in Group C's opening contest, registering a historic 2-1 victory at the Lusail Stadium.

PSG's superstar Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the penalty spot after just eight minutes before a quick-fire brace from the Green Falcons duo Saleh Ashehri and Salem Aldawsari turned the game on its head. With the game going well beyond the 100-minute mark, Hervé Renard's side hung on to claim a famous triumph sparking jubilant scenes.

Ending Argentina's 38-game unbeaten streak in the process, Saudi Arabia now faces tricky tests against Mexico and Poland, with one of the tournament's underdogs causing a huge upset. With some referencing Spain's dwindling start to the 2010 tournament before going on to claim victory in the final against the Netherlands, Argentina will have to mark a response in their next outing on Saturday.
