'World class' - Ian Wright makes Demarai Gray point after Everton goal

Former Arsenal star Ian Wright has praised Demarai Gray after his goal salvaged a point for Everton in their 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Frank Lampard 's side are still without a win after they were beaten by Chelsea and Aston Villa in their first two games. However, yesterday's result secured them their first point of the season. They found themselves 1-0 down after 81 minutes, but a long ball from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford allowed Gray to run in behind the Forest defence and slot it beyond Dean Henderson to level the scoreline.

It looked like it was going to be another disappointing defeat for Everton before the moment of brilliance from Gray and Pickford. And Wright, who made over 250 appearances for Arsenal during his playing days, singled out Gray for praise.

“The first touch was absolutely world class. He made a great run too and a good finish," he told Premier League Productions after the game.

Last season, Gray scored six goals in all competitions, most of which came in the league. The 26-year-old scored against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal and will need to step up once again this term to help his side avoid another relegation scrap.

Everton are in Carabao Cup action midweek before they visit Brentford next time out in the league. Thomas Frank's side were beaten 3-2 by Fulham on Saturday, but have picked up some impressive results already this term, with a 4-0 victory over Manchester United.

The Blues then face Leeds United away at the end of the month before they return to Goodison Park for the Merseyside derby against Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp's side are also without a win this season, but will hope to put that right when they face United at Old Trafford tomorrow night.
