World Champions Lisa O'Rourke and Amy Broadhurst still waiting on prize money two months after title wins

World Champions Lisa O'Rourke and Amy Broadhurst are still awaiting their prize money from their gold medal performances after winning their world titles two months ago.

O'Rourke and Broadhurst catapulted themselves into Irish boxing royalty with big wins at May's World Championships as the two women joined Katie Taylor and Kellie Harrington as the only Irish women to scoop gold at the World Championships.

But the pair are still awaiting their prize money from the International Boxing Association (IBA) some two months after victory.

And medallists are set to receive healthy prize money after IBA announced last year an increase in their prize fund with the boxing association maintaining links with sponsor Gazprom, a Russian majority state-owned energy company, with the company providing the majority of the associations finances.

Both O'Rourke and Broadhurst are set to scoop about €98,500 for their gold medal win while silver medal winners will receive €49,500 and bronze medallists receive €24,500.

The Irish Mirror has contacted the IBA for comment regarding the payments but has not received a reply at time of publication.

In what was a magical day in May, Broadhurst scooped gold against her Algerian opponent and Broadhurst had also sparred with Katie Taylor in the build up to the Bray fighter's bout against Amanda Serrano.

And in a nerveless third round performance in her world title fight, Broadhurst managed to comfortably win gold.

Lisa O'Rourke also had to dig deep in her fight as she did enough in her final round as they joined Katie Taylor and Kellie Harrington as world title winners.
