World champion cyclist Rohan Dennis pleads guilty to charges over wife's death

Former cycling world time trial champion Rohan Dennis has pleaded guilty to charges linked to the death of his wife.

Fellow Australian Olympian Melissa Hoskins died aged 32 after being hit by a car outside the couple’s Adelaide home on December 30, 2023.

Dennis, 34, entered a guilty plea to one count of an aggravated act likely to cause harm at Adelaide's South Australia District Court.

Judge Ian Press granted Dennis bail until April 14, when the court will hear sentencing submissions and victim impact statements.

Earlier charges of causing death by dangerous driving and an aggravated charge of driving without due care were dropped at Adelaide Magistrates' Court in December 2024.

Hoskins, who died aged 32, was a decorated athlete in her own right. She competed for Australia in track cycling at two Olympics - London 2012 and Rio 2016 - and claimed a world title in the team pursuit in 2015.

Dennis, who retired in late 2023, enjoyed a stellar cycling career. His achievements include two world time trial titles and an Olympic bronze medal in Tokyo. He also captured cycling's coveted yellow jersey at the 2015 Tour de France after winning the opening time trial.

The couple, who married in 2018, leave behind two children.
