World Central Kitchen Calls For Independent Investigation Of Gaza Strikes

Ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, in Gaza City

Non-profit organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) has made a formal request for an independent, third-party investigation into the recent Israeli strikes that resulted in the tragic deaths of seven of its employees in Gaza. The aid workers who lost their lives in the attack on Monday hailed from Australia, Canada, the US, Poland, the UK, and Gaza.

In a statement released on Thursday, WCK urged the governments of Australia, Canada, the United States of America, Poland, and the United Kingdom to support their call for an investigation to determine whether the strikes were intentional or if they breached international law.

WCK has also reached out to the Israeli government, requesting the preservation of all relevant materials such as documents, communications, and audiovisual recordings related to the attacks to ensure the integrity of the investigation process.

Founder of World Central Kitchen, José Andrés, has accused Israel of deliberately targeting the aid workers, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the strikes were unintentional and resulted in the harm of innocent individuals. The Israeli military's Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, acknowledged the incident as a grave mistake.

Israel has acknowledged the killings as a tragic event that occurred during the course of war, emphasizing that unintentional harm to non-combatants can happen in such circumstances. However, WCK emphasized the need for an impartial investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident and ensure accountability for those responsible.
