'Working with Richard Madeley is like trying to nail down a grasshopper' says co-star

Good Morning Britain's Richard Arnold has said working with TV presenter Richard Madeley is like 'trying to nail down a grasshopper'.

The ITV Showbiz presenter, 52, has shared how his colleagues unpredictable tangents during live interviews mean there is never a dull moment working alongside the 65-year-old veteran broadcaster.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, he said: "With his train of thought, sometimes it is like trying to nail down a grasshopper. You don’t know where it’s going to land.

"And I love that, because for me it’s all about the live and DJing that banter altogether. I mean we’re all a safe pair of hands and we know if we throw the ball to each other we’ll catch it."

Former This Morning presenter Richard Madeley is often called out by viewers on social media for his outspoken views and on-air gaffes but co-star Arnold insists he is good to work with and a 'great guy'.

He added:"Richard’s been a very spirited member of the team since he joined the regular rotation of presenters, so I do enjoy working with him. ''He’s a great guy."

Arnold recalled one of Madeley's most memorable gaffes came as he accidentally applied fake tan for moisturiser before appearing on the show with noticeably changing skin colour as the show progressed.

The comical scene remains a highlight for Richard Arnold who joked by the end of the show Madeley was looking like perma-tanned Hollywood icon George Hamilton.

He said: "My favourite moment was when he faked tanned and got darker and darker through the course of the show, I think even he was alarmed. Shades of Richard Madeley for everyone.

"The wonderful thing about Richard, he embraces it all, as we all do, particularly in this day and age of clickbait; if Susanna as much as breaks a fingernail you can guarantee the Twittersphere will light up within moments."

And just this week Richard Madeley was branded by a viewer as 'ridiculous' on Twitter when the ITV show was at the Poland and Ukraine border to see people helping those fleeing the country.

During the interview one of the many helpers, David Fox-Pitt, shared his work handing out pizzas to the refugees, when Richard interrupted the segment to enquire about pizza toppings.

He said: "What’s the favourite pizza topping? What’s the favourite pizza topping?"

David replied: "‘We do two. The favourite one is the pepperoni with a lovely cheese.’"

People watching the show were furious at the question and many blasted the presenter calling him 'ridiculous'.

One person tweeted: "With all the questions Richard Madeley could have asked about Ukrainians who finally get to safety, he asked what was most popular pizza topping! Idiot!!"
