A man has been taken to hospital with back injuries after a crane collapsed at the Sydney Fish Market construction site on Thursday.
Emergency services were called to the construction site on Bridge Road in Glebe just after midday after the arm of the crane fell into scaffolding.
Multiplex, the construction company that owns the crane, confirmed the crane collapsed inside the work site.
“A serious incident has occurred at the new Sydney Fish Market site where a crane jib has collapsed, injuring one worker,” a spokesperson said. “The worker has been taken to hospital in a stable condition.
“The crane is within the compounds of the site. The site has been evacuated and there is no risk to the workforce or public.
“We are offering our full support to emergency services, SafeWork NSW and the workforce. We will work with the relevant authorities to carry out a full investigation.”
Paramedics attended to the injured man before he was taken to hospital with back injuries.
A spokesperson for SafeWork said they would not comment on the investigation.
“SafeWork NSW has been notified of a crane collapse at a construction site in Glebe,” the spokesperson said.
“SafeWork’s inquiries are ongoing and further comment is not available at this time.”
