Work starts on £4m designer townhouses in Newcastle overlooking River Tyne

Work is under way on a year-long project to create a £4m residential development of townhouses overlooking the River Tyne in Newcastle.

Regional developer Modo Bloc has appointed Newcastle company Tyneside Developments as the main contractor for The Ropes, which will comprise seven townhouses on St Lawrence Road with balconies looking out onto the Tyne and towards the Ouseburn Valley. The homes been designed by architects Edwards Architecture along with engineering specialist JC Consulting.

As well as using modern materials, the three-bedroomed properties are being built using modern methods of construction, including the use of more sustainable Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs).

The project marks the first significant project for Robbie Kalbraier of Tyneside Developments and George Jenkins, founder of Modo Bloc, who have more planned schemes for the future.

Mr Jenkins, MD of Modo Bloc, expects The Ropes to be sold off-plan, to homeowners and investors looking to buy a homes in an attractive, historic location.

He said: “The Ropes will set a new standard in residential property in an area undergoing intense regeneration. It will pave the way for future design-led developments as the Ouseburn becomes one of Newcastle’s most desirable places to live. We have ambitious plans to build more design-led homes and develop more land for both residential and commercial use with exceptional craftsmanship at the forefront. We’re always looking at interesting investment and development options in North East communities and beyond.”

The properties are coming to market through Newcastle estate agent Hive Estates.

Elsewhere in the North East, Modo Bloc has secured planning permission to redevelop a former care home in Forest Hall, North Tyneside. It is creating 12 self-serviced luxury apartments at the site, in a £2m project which will comprise five one-bed and seven two-bed high-end apartments when completed early in 2023.
