Work on new mega Greggs gets underway as revamp of old Pizza Hut restaurant begins

Work on Ayrshire's giant Greggs store is now underway.

Scaffolding has been erected at the former Pizza Hut restaurant in Kilmarnock at Glencairn Retail Park.

Work is now being carried out to transform the venue to look like the famous bakery chain.

We revealed late last year that Steak Bake bosses submitted blueprints to open one of their biggest ever stores.

Officials said at the time they were looking to open a new Kilmarnock shop "early next year".

The giant 240 square metre outlet, with 121 square metres sales space, has ample space for a great number of covers.

Pizza Hut closed its doors for the final time in February 2020 after 25 years of service.

Greggs previously had a store on Kilmarnock's King Street more than a decade ago.

Its unit in the Burns Mall is currently the only outlet in the town.
