Work on a partially built skate park has stopped after the firm delivering it went into liquidation. Construction of the £225,000 ‘wheeled sports’ park in Clarence Park Bury, which would cater for skate boarding, BMX riding and scooters, began in June and the area has been cleared in readiness for ramps and other equipment to be installed.
However, activity at the site stopped last month with Bury Council then ‘using every means possible’ to contact The Freestyle Collective, the firm in charge of the project. The council has now said The Freestyle Collective had gone into voluntary liquidation in August and they were looking to appoint new contractors to pick up the remaining work on the project.
Plans for the new proposals agreed earlier this year after a previous skate park at Clarence Park shut two years ago after falling into disrepair and being vandalised. Speaking to full council on Wednesday in response to a question by Conservative deputy leader Jo Lancaster, cabinet member, Coun Alan Quinn, said: “We spent a length of time trying to contact the contractor basically using every means possible.
“We found out last week that they have entered voluntary liquidation and administrators have been appointed. Parks and countryside officers have been in consultation with the council’s legal department about what options we can use and out legal team are dealing with the administrators.
“They are also liaising with the external funder. Due to the legal process it’s too soon to say when a new contractor can be appointed but we remain committed to completing the project and will
report the revised time scales as soon as possible.
“The contractors equipment and fencing will be removed in the next few weeks and the area tidied up.”
Bury Council have committed £150,000 to the project with a further £75,000 coming from an external grant.
The work already completed at the site this summer has seen the old ramps removed, and the site cleared.

Documents filed with Companies House show the company has entered voluntary liquidation with a commencement of winding up date of September 15, 2022.
The company is now in the hands of Harrisons Business Recovery and Insolvency.
