Scaffolding surrounds the State Capitol dome in Frankfort. It’s there to carry out work being done to fully refurbish the structure which visually represents the state government. Bernie Engelman is the capital construction project manager. He said restoring the dome is not expected to detract from its historical footprint.
“We are following what they call the Secretary of the Interior Historic Preservation Guidelines and it has been done with very sensitive to the historic character of the dome and it will be authentic,” said Engelman.
Engelman said much of the work still involves close examination and evaluation of the dome features. And that has taken many forms during work days so far.
Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024.
