Work is progressing on the transformation of the site of a popular former pub. The main construction work to redevelop the land is now underway.
The Magpie pub was demolished after closing in 2019 and plans were last year passed for a 78-bedroom care facility in Stapleford. Planning permission was granted in January 2021, however the site had stood vacant ever since.
Workers have now been pictured on the site which sits on the corner of Toton Lane and Darkey Lane. The care home will include a cinema, cafe and a bespoke courtyard, with safe circular routes, to make it suitable for residents with dementia.

Andrew Ludlow, secretary of the Nottingham branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, previously spoke out about the demise of pubs located out of built-up urban areas and city centres. He feared many of a certain age who cannot travel to a local may end up staying in alone. "As a community pub, I suspect there must be quite a few in that area that are going to miss it quite badly," he added.
Care operator Medina will manage the site. It has been described as a "high-quality" home which will also create good jobs for local people. Work had originally been tabled to begin last autumn. Many construction projects were however delayed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
