The Rugby League World Cup has teamed up with Wor Flags to create a display at St James' Park when England open the tournament with a tough match against Samoa.
Wor Flags, a donation funded group that creates and curates flags and banners at Newcastle United matches and has also worked with Sam Fender, has signed up to produce displays for the tournament, held in England from October. The Rugby League World Cup has donated to the group, an amount which will allow them to fund more displays after the tournament finishes
The group will produce displays for both Samoa and England when the teams face each other on Saturday October 15 at St James' Park, including a giant St George's Cross in the Gallowgate End, the same stand where Wor Flags first launched six years ago. The Samoan flag display will take place opposite in the Leazes End.

With Newcastle in the spotlight, Wor Flags volunteers will be working to make St James' look as impressive as possible for a global TV audience.
Wor Flags representative Jordan Robinson added: “We can’t wait to be part of a huge Geordie welcome to the Rugby League World Cup. Our displays always make a big impact whenever Newcastle United play and we are sure it will be the same for England v Samoa.
“We are asking for a few more volunteers from the toon faithful to help out on the day waving the flags. They will get to watch a World Cup right here at St James’ Park and be part of history.
“Thanks to the generous donation from RLWC2021 we will be able to produce even more flags post-tournament, ensuring a real legacy for our fans.”
Giant waiver flags will be produced for each of the 32 teams involved in the three tournaments, showcasing the diversity of culture that the nation will see throughout the tournament. Wor Flags will also add some of their displays that feature iconic North East imagery and icons.
RLWC2021 Revenue Director, Mick Hogan, said: “We’ve seen the incredible displays that Wor Flags have produced at St James’ Park in the past, so we’re absolutely thrilled that they are on board to help make our opening day even more special. We’re delighted that we can contribute to the group that will allow them to increase their support of the club.
“It’s going to be an unbelievable atmosphere as we launch the tournament and one not to be missed.”
